A history of quality

Founded 275 years ago in the heart of Europe, Villeroy & Boch is a globally respected brand with a rich tradition of actively shaping bathroom culture. Our products embody classical elegance and reflect the beauty of both nature and urban design. While much has changed since the Baroque era, when the company was founded, Villeroy & Boch’s longevity and successful business record are a testament to its unerring ability to anticipate trends and stay relevant—and “modern”—with changing consumer needs.

Villeroy & Boch

Over the past nine generations, Villeroy & Boch has been shaped by the dedication of its founding families and, thanks to its unbridled spirit of innovation, has developed a quality that makes the company unique.
It was in 1748, when François Boch and his three sons began manufacturing ceramic tableware and decorative art objects. In 1836, Jean-François Boch merged with the successful stoneware manufacturer Nicolas Villeroy to form Villeroy & Boch. Their union produced one of the first global players of the 19th century.

Thirty years later, Villeroy & Boch made its first steps into the housing and construction sector by establishing a mosaic factory that would go on to meet the worldwide demand for Mettlach tiles, which now decorate historic landmarks ranging from Germany’s Cologne Cathedral to the Holland Tunnel in New York City. Floor tiles from the same factory also contributed to the interior grandeur and elegance of the RMS Titanic.

A history of quality

When running water was introduced in the 19th century, Villeroy & Boch started the serial production of sanitary ceramics and contributed towards bringing bathroom culture and hygiene to the wider market throughout Europe. The company was able to transform the bathroom into a feel-good oasis thanks to Luigi Colani’s pioneering product concept in 1975. The bathroom was no longer regarded as just a place for personal grooming, instead it gained the same status as all other living areas and became an expression of personal taste. The bathroom has become a personal retreat for many people where they can relax and unwind.
